Leadership Spotlight: Deally Curran

Deally Curran, one of our amazing Social Worker Supervisors here at EA Family Services, is our choice for November's Leadership Spotlight! Although she experienced some difficult times early in life, she found strength and solace from the support of her parents.

"My parents always taught me to work hard and never give up. I believe no matter how hard our past might have been, we can always rise above and start again."

Leadership Spotlight

Read on to learn more about Deally's early life, her advice to anyone interested in working in our industry, and more!

What was your early life like, and were there any experiences that contributed to your success with EA?

When I was a kid, I always told people I wanted to be a superhero when I grew up... if only I could've figured out the whole superpower thing! I grew up in a big family. I have seven siblings, and we didn't have much so we learned to lean on each other a lot. During that time a lot of people helped us, which made me want to help others when I got older. EA has given me that opportunity; to help provide an environment of compassion and support to those who need it.

What advice would you give to someone interested in working with youth in foster care?

Be kind and patient. Remember that listening to someone who needs help doesn't cost you anything. Reaching out to someone who's struggling will only lift you both up. Life is too short to waste energy on things out of your control.

What do you enjoy doing when you're not at work?

I spend my free time with my husband Michael, my baby girl Delilah, our dog Maxwell, and our cat Buddy. We love watching movies, going out to eat, and traveling. I'm a big foodie, and I love trying new things, although now that we have a toddler we're limited to more kid-friendly places.

What's a hidden talent you have, or something about yourself that would surprise people?

Not sure if it's a talent, but I'm double jointed.

Anything else you'd like to add?

Life is short, so work somewhere awesome!
