Leadership Spotlight: Rocio Martinez

Rocio Martinez

Please describe your background, and what led you to EA:
I started as an intern with EA back in 2012 as I was finishing my Bachelor degree in Human Services. I instantly fell in love with this industry and knew this was where I needed to be. After my internship was over, I was offered a job as a social worker assistant/ transporter. In the course of completing my Master's degree, I was promoted to a social worker position. From there EA has changed the course of my profession career and led me to where I am now.

What experiences early in life contributed to your success with EA?
I was raised in a strong, hard working household where I was taught to always push myself to overcome all of my challenges. Thanks to my parents, I have a strong work ethic and dedication to my career/passion; which of course is work with children.

What advice would you give to someone interested in working with youth in foster care?
Go in with an open mind and a willingness to learn. Always remember you cannot save every child but you DEFINITELY WILL help impact their life in some sort of way. This job can be challenging but the rewards are worth it! Having a strong support system with help you deal with all the highs and lows this job can bring.

What do you enjoy doing when you're not at work?
Family & friends means everything to me. I love spending quality time with all of them and making long lasting memories. I also enjoy crafting and going on different outdoor adventures. Finding a hiking trail that leads to a waterfall is one of my favorite things to do.

What's a hidden talent you have, or something about yourself that would surprise most people?
I have always loved to dance. In high school, I participated in a dance team and in my senior year we won 2nd place in state competition. Now, even with a full time job and spending quality time with my family and friends, I do dance choreography for quinceaƱeras and other special events.

Anything else you'd like to add?
I'm grateful for all the opportunities that EA has provided me and I'm looking forward to the journey ahead. I've had the greatest privilege of working with and meeting so many amazing people, families and youth. Working at EA is not only a career to me, it has flourished into a second home/family as well. I also want to thank my parents, boyfriend, family and close friends for the the love and support they have given and continue to provide.
