Foster Parent Spotlight: The Matthews
When did your foster experience begin?
We first began our foster parent journey by inquiring on becoming a resource home with our local EA office. We had no prior experience as resource parents, but with the help of our EA social workers and local EA office we are proud to say this month marks our 3rd year as foster parents!
Why did you want to become foster parents?
Our motivation has and always will be to help children in need. We have a strong belief that everyone deserves a second chance in life and that is what we strive to give every child that we are blessed to have in our home.
What challenges have you faced?
With our home primarily fostering intensive care teens, we knew there would be some bumps in the road. There definitely have been a few, but with the guidance and support from our amazing team at EA, we have been able to weather any storm.
What advice would you give to new foster parents?
Our advice to new foster parents is to always lead with patience and compassion, both for your kiddos and your self. Foster care can be unpredictable, so be prepared to adapt to changes and know that growth isn't always in a straight line.
What's been your favorite part about being foster parents?
Our favorite part about being foster parents is being able to experience the different characters and personalities of every child we've been able to care for and being able to see their growth first-hand.
