Employee of the Month: Jamie Cobabe

What originally made you want to work with EA? Jamie Cobabe

I first came to EA when I was interning for my undergrad with Sac State. I appreciated the supportive environment provided by the EA Social Workers and knew I wanted to pursue a career at EA. After my internship ended, I was hired as a Case Manager working with our THP (Transitional Housing Program). I am currently continuing my education to obtain a Master of Social Work degree, and received a Social Worker Exception to aid in expanding my knowledge in Foster Family Agencies. EA has provided me the opportunity to grow as an individual as well as professionally, and the relationships I have gained along the way are held at a high value. I have always been passionate about working with families and children, and EA has provided me the space to do so.

Describe what your best day on the job looks like:

My best day on the job includes visiting with my clients; collaborating on how to best meet their needs while providing tools and resources useful for their success in achieving their goals. This, followed by touching base with other EA Social Workers to learn alternative ways to approach clients and address their needs. Last, providing time for self-reflection, recognizing my contribution to my life and the lives of those around me. A combination of all three is what makes for the perfect day at EA.

What do you wish people knew about working in your field?

I wish people knew that Social Work is more than just meeting the client where they are and ensuring their needs are met. Thinking outside the box by finding creative solutions to issues that arise makes each day of social work different.

How do you practice self care?

Before the pandemic, self-care involved massages, nail salons, and spending quality time with my family. With the pandemic, the massages and nail salons have been replaced with long walks, neighborhood tire swings, electric scooter racing, and date nights at home. I have so much to be thankful for!

What's a hidden talent you have, or something about yourself that would surprise most people?

I’m introverted but actively explore my extrovert characteristics to provide a balanced space for myself.

Anything else you'd like to add?

I’m thankful for the professional opportunities EA has given me, and I am looking forward to the many more to come.
