Employee of the Month: Eugena (Gina) Emereonye

Eugena

What originally made you want to work with EA?
Since May 2009, I've worked with foster youth while I attended Sacramento State. After graduating with my BSW, I started my journey as a Residential Counselor working with Emotionally Disturbed foster youth. My reasoning for entering this field was my passion and desire to help others succeed with my support. I am easily approachable, and I consider all outcomes before making a decision. EA has created a supportive and encouraging work environment. I'm grateful to have EA as apart of my continuous journey as a social worker.

Describe what your best day on the job looks like:
Typically, my best days start with going to the office and preparing for a few morning home visits with my THP+FC clients and FFA clients. After returning from my home visits, I spend the rest of my time completing documentation, staffing, and collaborating with a few of my EA colleagues.

What do you wish people knew about working in your field?

Starting from a mentor, case manager, and now a social worker at EA has been the most rewarding job I have ever had. I believe social workers create a safe and concise environment for clients from all walks of life. Social workers do what we do because we are deeply passionate about clients and people we work with on a daily. As a social worker, it is the growth and drives that we see in clients.

How do you practice self care?
I practice self-care by attending church, running, reading, painting my nails, dancing, and shopping! I often do spend quality time with my fiance, my children, family, and friends weekly.

What's a hidden talent you have, or something about yourself that would surprise most people?
I know Sign Language and I can sign the ABC song!

Anything else you'd like to add?
I'm getting married in January 2021!
