Employee of the Month: Natalie Kaiser, Social Worker

How long have you been with EA? What roles have you had? Natalie Kaiser

3.5 years—I've been a social worker from the beginning.

What originally made you want to work with EA?

I wanted to work with foster families, help resource parents feel supported and appreciated, and help foster youth feel valued.

Describe what your best day on the job looks like.

I think the best day is when I have a great connection with a youth or resource parent and know that I have helped give them the tools they need to build a strong connection with each other. Especially when they are having trouble finding that connection and there is that moment when the family realizes you are on their side and want what is best for them.

What do you wish people knew about working in your field?

I wish people knew that it's not just a job, and understood the amount of care we have for everyone on our caseload, from the resource parents to the youth in the home. When they have success and call to celebrate, we celebrate too—when they are heartbroken and seek compassion, we are heartbroken too.

How do you practice self care?

I make sure I spend time with the people I love, go to church, and take a trip to Hobby Lobby! My favorite way to relax is going on a lunch date with my husband and getting craft supplies for a project I will probably never complete!

What's a hidden talent you have, or something about yourself that would surprise most people?

I have a creative side that I don't share as much as I would like. I taught myself how to crochet, and I love to make scrapbooks and cards—especially for Christmas and birthdays.

Anything else you'd like to add?

I love working for EA and I love the people I work with. I am so proud to work for an agency that works so hard to be better. EA is always growing and changing and I love that they are always trying to add more services to meet the needs of our families.
