April Activity: Gardening!

April is Kids Garden Month!

Although it's only April, here in California the sunny skies and plentiful blooms have us feeling like spring has officially sprung. If you're looking for a fun, healthy activity that'll get everyone outside together, consider gardening!

There are a myriad of benefits involved, and although it can seem like a daunting task at first, upkeep is probably easier than you think. If space is limited, consider a trellis to grow beans or grapes. Gardening with the kids can provide an easy segue to talk about scientific concepts like soil composition and photosynthesis, and studies have shown that kids exposed to gardening scored higher on science tests.

It's no secret that most kids love to stick their hands and feet in the dirt, and the various physical activities involved with gardening will help them develop motor skills and overall strength. Studies have shown that children who spend time interacting with soil, digging and planting, etc. have improved moods and decreased anxiety.
