Employee of the Month: Hortencia Sanchez

What originally made you want to work with EA? Hortencia Sanchez, Social Worker

I have always considered myself a servant of my community. When I saw the opportunity to work for EA and assist foster parents and children who are in need I knew this was the career choice for me.

Describe what your best day on the job looks like:

I get excited when I know placement is a perfect match. Those are my favorite days: when I see a child who has potential placed in a home that helps that potential blossom.

What do you wish people knew about working in your field?

It can be hard to collaborate with foster families, the County, and children's biological parents at times. Each may have different opinions on the placing, and the overall health and wellness of the child. I wish people knew more about how much effort EA employees put into making sure each placement is successful.

How do you practice self care?

I like to spend time with my family. I have a 22-month-old daughter. My happy place is every weekend when I get to go spend time with my family and go on our little adventures. I also like to pamper myself with a Half-Cut Ice Tea every morning from McDonald's - it is my way of enjoying my drive into work with a positive attitude.

What's a hidden talent you have, or something about yourself that would surprise most people?

I'm very good at old video games, I am able to beat the old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle 4 player arcades game and spend only a dollar. The last time we played my husband spent $15 dollars in quarters to keep up with me! I also have a contagious laugh that makes others laugh. People can identify when I enter a room by my laughter.

Anything else you'd like to add?

I really appreciate my supervisor, coworkers, and EA Family for giving me this opportunity. I have learned so much from everyone with whom I have had the pleasure to work with. It's been a true honor. Here's to many years of success for each and every one of you!
