Employee of the Month: Christina Martinez, RFA Specialist
How long have you been with EA? What roles have you had?
Nearly 2.5 years. I started out as a part-time social worker, went full-time, and then moved into the RFA Specialist role.
What originally made you want to work with EA?
I lived in WA when I first applied, I spoke with former colleagues and classmates around CA to get their opinions on working with EA in whatever capacity. Everyone spoke highly of EA. Then during my interview, all those present had been with EA for years which made me feel this would be a great agency to join and grow with.
Describe what your best day on the job looks like.
The best day on the job is one where there are no fires to put out, everyone I talk to is in a good mood, and there is somehow a dog involved.
What do you wish people knew about working in your field?
I wish others in the community knew how heartbreaking and how hopeful this field can be. And I wish they knew how much dedication, care, and concern that people who work in this field have.
How do you practice self care?
I practice self-care by being outside, by water if it's available, and doing outside things like looking at animals, staring at the sky, and throwing hooks in the water. And if I'm inside, I like making things; resin things, felted things, painted things, woodworking, etc. I cycle through hobbies throughout the year.
What's a hidden talent you have, or something about yourself that would surprise most people?
I've walked the Camino de Santiago 3 times. It is a 500-mile pilgrimage in Spain. I plan to go back one day and walk it again. Does anyone want to come with?! :)
Anything else you'd like to add?
I appreciate being nominated as employee of the month. However, it is only because of the awesome people I work with that I get to do what I do, so thanks to all of you.
