Employee of the Month: Amy Palmero, CalAIM Intake Coordinator

Amy Palmero CalAIM Intake CoordinatorWhat originally made you want to work with EA?

I had just graduated with my MSW in Social Work and wanted to work in an environment that would allow me to do what I love, which is helping people. I originally wanted to work with the little ones, but was asked to work with the THP population. I agreed and ended up really enjoying my time working with them! I learned so much and am so grateful for the shift in my professional journey. It allowed me to expand my desire to help, and embrace new challenges and obstacles with a population that I had never worked with. I had my son in 2019 and left to be a stay at home mom—I am now back on the CalAIM side and loving the role that I am in!

Describe what your best day on the job looks like:

My best day on the job is having the ability to connect with other professionals both within our agency and outside. When I was a Social Worker for the Sacramento office I was able to develop wonderful working relationships with my team members. The role that I am in now (as the Intake Coordinator for CalAIM) has allowed me to expand that and meet other employees and supervisors within our agency. It has been amazing to connect and work alongside them, seeing all of the wonderful ways our staff helps people on a daily basis!

What do you wish people knew about working in your field?

I wish people knew that this job is something that I am grateful for. I am grateful to be able to work for a company that allows me to play a role in helping people. I wish people knew that no two days are quite ever the same and that this job opens up a view into people’s lives and struggles. This job allows me to have a deeper perspective and appreciation for people, life and all of the ups and downs that come with it. This job allows me to make a difference, even if it is just by starting the process and submitting the necessary paperwork to obtain an approval to help these individuals get the services they desperately need.

How do you practice self care?

I practice self-care by spending time with our almost 4 year old son. His love for life and adventure just makes every day so much brighter! I also enjoy going on walks, listening to music and being around friends and family.

What's a hidden talent you have, or something about yourself that would surprise most people?

I really like to volunteer and travel. I went to India in 2008 and volunteered in an orphanage for a month. It allowed me the opportunity to learn life lessons that I may never have otherwise. Also, I love seeing people happy. It is my favorite!

Anything else you'd like to add?

Thank you to EA for allowing me to continue to have a role in helping and connecting with others : )
