Employee of the Month: Kristi Stevens, Housing Coordinator
What originally made you want to work with EA? 
The EA Housing Coordinator role provided an opportunity to be of service to my community and to utilize my education and professional skills from many areas of my career. As a former foster guardian and a mom to both an autistic teen and a transgender teen, I am dedicated to advocating for young adults in these communities, and EA supports that ambition.
Describe what your best day on the job looks like:
On the best days at work, communication flows smoothly, rental resources are available, clients are agreeable, support falls easily into place, and placements are scheduled while another is successfully completed —resulting in a happy client in a stable home. And of course, unlimited coffee.
What do you wish people knew about working in your field?
Many parts of the Housing Coordinator role are outside the scope of one person’s control, and aligning others under the same coordination can be difficult. Patience is required. It’s a great position for creative people who enjoy working through obstacles and challenges, and extremely rewarding when those issues are overcome and lead to a successful placement.
How do you practice self care?
I try to get a minimum of 8 hours of sleep. I wake up at 5am daily for an hour of self-reflection and care—whether it's Vasana and Kundalini yoga, sprint running, meditation, spiritual studies, writing or research for personal development. I also spend plenty of quality time with my favorite people, and in nature. I keep my work and home life separated.
What's a hidden talent you have, or something about yourself that would surprise most people?
My favorite music genres are rap and hip hop, I’m called the “Queen of Jeopardy” by friends and family, and I’m an ordained Minister of Metaphysical Philosophy.
Anything else you'd like to add?
In my previous job experience, I’ve had few coworkers who genuinely consider others. In that way, EA is very different. So many go above and beyond for the clients. I am extremely grateful to work with such dedicated, friendly, and compassionate people who support each other so beautifully and work together toward common goals.
