Leadership Spotlight: Rehmana Arif

What led you to your current position with EA Family Services?
I started my career with EA a little over eight years ago. I was looking for a job after some life changes, and came across an ad for a part time office assistant. Although thankful for the opportunity, I was restless to build a career; one that would challenge me, and allow me to give back. As time passed, I had the opportunity to interact with families and foster children, which was new to me. I was intrigued by the dynamics of the court system, and the impact of EA social workers in supporting children and families. As my understanding of the company and the foster care system grew, I knew this was the career I'd been searching for.
What experiences early in life have contributed to your success?
I learned early in life to not take anything for granted, and grateful for not only the good, but the bad as well. I never dreamed I'd be a social worker one day. Life led me down this path, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to support this agency, the children, and our families.
What advice would you give to someone interested in working with youth in foster care?
Social work is so rewarding. There are so many amazing families, children, and youth we meet on this journey, and we can learn a lot from all of them. However, social work can also be challenging and emotional. My advice for those interested in this field is to take it one step at a time, and breathe!
What do you enjoy doing when you're not at work?
I love spending time with my family. They give me hope, and the strength to keep going. I also enjoy reading, bike riding, and making slime with my daughter.
What's something about you that would surprise most people?
As a young child it was my dream to become an actor. I was, and still am awed by the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. I love keeping up with the latest Hollywood gossip.
Anything else you'd like to add?
My journey with EA has been amazing! I'm lucky to have found my home away from home, and a family who truly cares about the welfare of their workers.
