Employee of the Month: Daniel Bixler

What originally made you want to work with EA? Daniel Bixler, AOT Mental Health Clinician

I wanted to work with EA because I am empathetic to the population served by AOT, Assisted Outpatient Treatment. I view this population as one of the most vulnerable groups, as there are factors such as homelessness, serious mental illness, and substance abuse. I am impressed that EA Family Services is the first to initiate AOT services in Humboldt County.

Describe what your best day on the job looks like:

My best day involves accompanying clients having an "Aha!" moment: making significant progress past a barrier they may have been working on for some time. My best day also involves being part of the EA team, connecting with co-workers and making progress on our mission.

What do you wish people knew about working in your field?

As an AOT Mental Health Counselor and a Mental Health Counselor for Plumas Adult Mental Health Services, I am privileged to join our clients on their personal journey in overcoming lifelong challenges. Working with people in mental health counseling is an honor. I learn a lot about life through the struggles and epiphanies clients experience; it's the best part of my job.

How do you practice self care?

I love nature, camping, walking and people. I like to do all three at the same time when I get the chance. I also like just putting on my PJs and making a cup of tea to take care of myself.

What's a hidden talent you have, or something about yourself that would surprise most people?

I love live music and I like to dance. I also play Ukulele and I like to sing at a campfire...

Anything else you'd like to add?

Thank you for having me as a part of the EA team. I have felt so supported and satisfied with this work and on this team, and I just got started here...
