Employee of the Month: Dey Cortez, Case Manager
What originally made you want to work with EA? 
Prior to EA, I worked in a group home. My favorite part was working with those that were nearing 18 and teaching them the skills and knowledge of independent living. Becoming a Case Manager gave me the opportunity to do just that.
Describe what your best day on the job looks like:
First, getting to the office while it’s early and quiet. Next, having my day go exactly as planned (it’s rare). Finally, getting a text or hearing how excited my clients get when they reach a goal or overcome a barrier.
What do you wish people knew about working in your field?
Genuinely caring about the population you work with is what makes the biggest difference.
How do you practice self care?
I practice self care by doing the things that bring me joy, so it varies day by day.
What's a hidden talent you have, or something about yourself that would surprise most people?
This isn’t a talent…or a surprise to anyone who knows me but I’m obsessed with bubly sparkling water. I can go through a whole box in a day. Yes, I’ve had every flavor. No, I don’t have a favorite.
